Two Charged in McDonald’s Parking Lot Murder
The shooting was a case of a drug deal gone bad, Tampa police said.
TAMPA – Two teens have been charged with the July 20 shooting death of a man in a McDonald’s parking lot, the Tampa Police Department said.
Marquez Davon Roberts, 19, was charged with one count each of First Degree Felony Murder, Carrying a Concealed Firearm, and Uttering a Counterfeit Instrument
Dontae Lamar Hopkins, 17, was charged with one count of Third Degree Felony Murder with Firearm.
On Thursday (Dec. 6), the case involving the July 20 shooting death of Nicholas Mortazavi was taken to a grand jury and both Roberts and Hopkins were indicted. Hopkins turned himself in Thursday. Roberts
turned himself in Saturday (Dec. 8).
Police said Mr. Mortazavi, drove to the McDonald’s parking lot at 3515 S Dale Mabry Hwy. on July 20 to sell marijuana to Roberts. During the deal, Roberts paid Mr. Mortazavi with counterfeit money and a confrontation ensued. During the confrontation, both Roberts and Hopkins armed themselves with firearms. Mr. Mortazavi was shot and killed.
