The toddler was left in the car outside a daycare for five hours, deputies said.

BRANDON – Hillsborough deputies are investigating the death Tuesday (Feb. 28) of a two year old who was left locked in a car for five hours.

Jacob Manchego, 2, died at Brandon Regional Hospital where he was taken after being removed from the car.

The Hillsborough Sheriff’s Office said the investigation is preliminary and information could change, but said deputies were called to the Oak Park Shopping Center at W Lumsden Road and Kings Avenue in Brandon about 2:40 p.m. for a child found locked in an unattended vehicle.

At about 9:30 am, the victim’s half sister Fiorella Vanessa Silva-Tello, 21, arrived for work at the BFF Kidz Child Care Center, 733 W Lumsden Road with Jacob. Deputies said Silva-Tello went inside the child care center and left Jacob unattended in the vehicle.

Silva-Tello returned to the vehicle about 2:30 p.m. and discovered Jacob unconscious. Silva-Tello took the child from the vehicle and carried him to a dialysis center in the shopping center where first aid was given, deputies said. Hillsborough County Fire Rescue arrived and took Jacob to the hospital where he later died.

As of late Tuesday, no charges had been filed pending further investigation and review by the Hillsborough County State Attorney’s Office.
