The teen admitted he tried to kill the baby, the Pasco Sheriff’s Office said.

PASCO COUNTY – A Port Richey teen has been charged with the attempted murder of a 4-month-old baby, according to the Pasco County Sheriff’s Office.

Andrew McCormick, 14, of 7304 Ivanhoe Drive in Port Richey, has been charged with one count each of attempted first degree murder and child abuse with custodial authority.

Deputies said McCormick was left in charge of the baby while the parents were out. McCormick put the baby on a bed with his head in a blanket making it impossible for the child to breathe, then, deputies said, he put a pillow on top of the infant’s head.

McCormick admitted to deputies that he intentionally tried to kill the baby by placing him face down then putting a pillow over the back of the child’s head. McCormick told a deputy that he sat on a couch and watched the baby struggle by moving his arms around because he was unable to roll over to prevent being suffocated. Deputies said McCormick also admitted leaving the baby like that for five to 10 minutes until the parents returned home to find the child face down with a pillow over his head.
