The video voyeurism and other charges, including possession of child pornography, are in addition to one charge of video voyeurism filed against the Bloomingdale Senior High teacher in September.

VALRICO – A Bloomingdale Senior High School teacher was arrested and charged with one count of video voyeurism in September after officials discovered two cell phones hidden in the changing room of a fashion design class.

After further investigation, the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office has charged Mark William Ackett, 50, of Plant City, with additional crimes. (Click here for related story.)

Ackett was charged Monday (Oct. 22) with 267 counts of video voyeurism, 73 counts of production of harmful material of a minor, and 13 counts of possession of child pornography.

Deputies began their investigation Sept. 11 after being notified by school administrators that a student had found two concealed cellphones within the fashion design class changing room at the Valrico school. One of the devices was actively recording when it was discovered by the student.

The student had gone into the room, a designated fitting/changing room within a fashion design classroom, to try on clothing. While changing into various outfits, she noticed an electronic recording devices set up to covertly record the same area where she was undressing. The student immediately dressed herself and reported the incident to the school administration.

Deputies said Ackett admitted that he was recording students while they were changing. Ackett was arrested and charged with one count of video voyeurism. Hillsborough County Public School’s Professional and also began an investigation.

During the initial investigation,deputies seized the cellphones and a court-authorized search warrant was obtained and served on the devices. A forensic analysis of the cellphones revealed 267 videos and images of girls ranging from 14 years old to 18 years old, in various stages of undress. As a result, Ackett was charged with the additional crimes.

Ackett turned himself in to the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office and was taken into custody without incident.
