Tampa Teen Shot Cab Driver During Attempted Robbery, Police Say
The cab driver suffered a non-life-threatening injury, the Tampa Police Department said.
TAMPA – Officers have arrested a Tampa man who shot a cab driver late Wednesday (July 25) night, the Tampa Police Department said.
The cab driver, Dieunal Cherisca, 43, was taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Stephon Dye, 19, of Tampa, was charged with one count each of aggravated battery with great bodily harm and robbery. He, too, was taken to a hospital for treatment of minor injuries suffered during an “engagement” with a police dog. After he was treated, officers took him to jail.
Police said they were called to N Nebraska Avenue and E Seward Street about 11:25 p.m. for a report of a shooting. When they arrived, officers said they found Cherisca, who had been shot during a struggle after Dye tried to rob him at gun point.
Police began searching the area and found Dye hiding in a nearby business.
