Tampa, St. Pete Cops, Teens Injured in Crash

The crash, in St. Petersburg, involved a stolen car and an undercover police pickup truck.

ST. PETERSBURG – Two police officers and at least two teenagers were taken to hospitals after an early morning crash, according to the St. Petersburg Police Department.

Police say the crash happened about 12:23 this morning (March 14) when a stolen car traveling at a high rate of speed hit an undercover pick-up truck at Central Ave and 54th Street. Preliminary information is that up to six teenagers were in the car and some were seriously injured.  At least two were seriously injured. They were taken to St. Petersburg area hospitals. Their ages and injuries are not available at this time.

A Tampa police officer in the passenger seat of the truck and a St. Petersburg Police officer, who was driving, were also injured and taken to St. Petersburg General and St. Anthony’s Hospital. Their injuries are not considered life-threatening at this time, police said. They were working together as part of the Auto Theft Task Force but were not involved in a pursuit.

Police have closed Central Avenue at 54th while the investigation continues.
