Tampa Police Name Suspect in Fatal Hillsborough Avenue Hit and Run

Felix De la Uz, 80, died Saturday (March 17) when he was hit while walking along Hillsborough Avenue with his wife. The driver and his passenger fled the scene on foot, the Tampa Police Department said.

TAMPA – Police here have named a suspect and a person of interest in the hit-and-run crash that killed an 80-year-old man Saturday (March 17).

Tracy Evereth Wood, 31, has been identified as the driver of the Honda Civic involved in the hit and run, according to the Tampa Police Department. Wood is known to frequent the Seffner and Town and Country areas of Hillsborough County. Wood has an active warrant in connection with a hit and run involving death.

Miriam Marti-Benning, 43, has been named a person of interest in the case. Police said Marti-Benning has been identified as the passenger in the vehicle. Detectives said they would like to speak with her.

Detectives are asking anyone who may know the whereabouts of Wood or Marti-Benning, to contact the Tampa police at (813) 231-6130.

The crash, which happened about 12:22 p.m. in the 4000 block of W Hillsborough Avenue, killed Felix De la Uz. He and his wife, Narda Vazquez Ruiz, were walking along Hillsborough Avenue when a white Honda Civic left the roadway, hit a sign, an electrical box, and Mr. De la Us.Witnesses told police Mr. De la Uz pushed his wife to safety before he was hit.
