Tampa Police Say Arrests Shut Down Violent Street Gang
The 200 Skudda Gang committed fraud throughout the U.S. involving hundreds of victims, Tampa police say.
TAMPA – Nine men associated with a violent street gang, the 200 Skudda Gang, were rounded up Tuesday (Aug. 20) morning after a two-year investigation into criminal activities that included homicide, credit card fraud, racketeering, drug sales, and identity theft, according to the Tampa Police Department.
The investigation involved the Tampa Police Department and the Florida Department of Law Enforcement in partnership with the Florida Office of the Attorney General.
The 200 Skudda Gang – operating within the city of Tampa and Hillsborough County, as well as Conyers County, GA – committed fraud throughout the U.S. involving hundreds of victims.
“The crimes committed by this violent gang created fear in communities throughout our state,” Florida Attorney General Ashley Moody said. “The gang members stole identities, Social Security numbers and other personal information to further their criminal enterprise. We will not tolerate identity theft and fraud in Florida, and that is why my statewide prosecutors worked tirelessly on this extensive multiagency investigation to ensure members of the Skudda gang will face justice.”
The investigation into the 200 Skudda Gang began in May of 2017. The gang was involved in and responsible for numerous shootings, including a homicide in Tampa in 2016. The victim was 17-year-old Kelly Stacy. His killer, Joshua Green, was arrested Tuesday morning, charged with Third Degree Murder, among several other charges, officers said.
The gang also was involved in a feud with a rival gang in Sulphur Springs. Two 200 Skudda Gang members shot two of the rival gang members April 2, 2017. The victims survived. The gang members were arrested and successfully prosecuted by Hillsborough County State Attorney’s Office and are serving prison time.
As detectives investigated the shootings, they discovered numerous cases of fraud involving members of the gang. Gang members conspired to commit acts of witness intimidation during open cases, credit card fraud, identity theft, criminal possession of personal identification information, personal use of fraudulent identification, wire fraud, purchases of firearms by convicted felons, illegal narcotic sales and delivery of narcotics.
“I am happy to stand alongside our law enforcement partners to announce the arrest of several 200 Skudda Gang members,” FDLE Tampa Bay Special Agent in Charge Mark Brutnell said. “I have no doubt these arrests will make Tampa a safer city.”
