Tampa Police Investigate Fourth Murder in Seminole Heights

A witness was able to give a description of the shooter.

TAMPA – Police are investigating the fourth murder in the Seminole Heights area of Tampa.

Ronald Felton, 60, this morning became the fourth person to die of gunshot wounds in the area. The shootings are thought to be linked.

In this case, a witness was able to describe the shooter as a light-skinned black man about  feet or 6 feet 2 inches with a thin build armed with a large black pistol last seen wearing all black clothing.

Police said they responded to N Nebraska Avenue and E McBerry Street to answer a report of shots being heard in the area. When they arrived a few seconds after receiving the call, they fund Mr. Felton dead in the street.

Witnesses told police that Mr. Felton was crossing the street to meet someone when the suspect came up behind him and shot him.

Police set up a perimeter from Osborne Avenue to Hillsborough Avenue and Nebraska to N 15th Street to try containing the suspect. The Hillsborough County School system also temporarily locked in eight nearby schools.

Tampa police have continued working throughout the day to try to track down the suspect and collect information. They  are asking residents to review any surveillance cameras they may have and share it with our detectives. They are also asking gun owners to verify the weapon’s location and report it if it is missing. Anyone who may have any information, should call the Tampa police at (813) 231-6130.

Mr. Felton was the fourth person to be shot to death in the Seminole Heights area during recent weeks. Anthony Taino Naiboa, 20, of Tampa, was shot Oct. 19; Monica Caridad Hoffa, 32, died Oct. 13; and Edward Mitchell, 22, died Oct. 9.

The shootings have the neighborhood on edge. Police have increased patrols and become a visible presence in the area.
