Tampa Police Investigate Fatal Shooting

The dead man and the shooter knew each other, Tampa police said.

TAMPA – Officers are investigating a shooting that resulted in a man’s death after an altercation on a Tampa street.

Antwan S. Dixon, 35, died at a hospital of wounds he suffered in the shooting, according to the Tampa Police Department.

The shooting happened about 2:38 p.m. Thursday (July 20) E 93rd Avenue near N Ninth Street. Police said they were called to the area because of a report that shots had been fired. When they arrived, they found Mr. Dixon lying on the ground near a vehicle. He had multiple gunshot wounds.

The preliminary investigation indicates that Mr. Dixon exchanged words with another man, which led to shots being fired by the other man. The shooting does not appear to be random and police said they believe Mr. Dixon and the shooter knew each other.

At this time no arrests have been made. The investigation continues and detectives said they have promising leads regarding the shooter.
