Tampa Police Charge Second Teen in Dirt Bike Murder

Police say the teens shot and killed a man who was helping his son sell the two a dirt bike.

TAMPA – Police here have charged a second teen in the shooting death of  a Pasco man.

Dontae Johnson, 17, was arrested late Wednesday (Feb. 1) and charged with first-degree felony murder, robbery, and discharge of a firearm in public, Tampa police said. Police had arrested Ramontrae Williams, 16, on Tuesday (Jan. 31). Williams was charged with first-degree felony murder and robbery.

The shooting occurred about 7:03 p.m. on Tuesday (Jan. 31) at N 18th Street and E 24th Avenue. Police said the son of James Beck, 44, had posted a notice on Craigslist to sell his dirt bike.
After several communications with a potential buyer, he arranged to meet with the teens in Tampa. He and his father traveled to Tampa with the dirt bike.

The Becks met with the two teens and it soon became clear that the suspects intended to rob the two, police said. As Mr. Beck was attempting to leave, officers said Johnson shot him and Williams took the dirt bike. Mr. Beck, of Holiday, died of his injuries.

Tampa police said the found the dirt bike near Williams’ home.
