Tampa Police Charge Man in Soho Robbery/Kidnapping

TAMPA – Police arrested a Tampa man Friday (Dec.9) and charged him with the robbery and kidnapping of a woman in the Soho area of South Tampa.

Johnathan Troy Rogers, 32, of 3502 Osborne Ave. E in Tampa, was charged with robbery and kidnapping, the Tampa Police Department said.

Police said they received help from SoHo business owners who provided surveillance video and shared all information that might have aided in the investigation.

The incident happened abuot 2:10 a.m. Dec. 3. The woman had been socializing with friends and walked alone to her car in a parking lot at in the 900 block of S Howard. As she stood at her car, a man came up behind her. As soon as she opened her car door, police said the man struck her in the head, knocking her unconscious. The man picked her up, placed her in her own car and drove away in the car with the woman inside. It’s unclear where the man parked the car, officers said. After a short time, he exited the car taking the woman’s valuables, and leaving her in the car.

The woman suffered abrasions and contusions as a result of the attack, police said. That afternoon, she called police to report the incident.

The case remains under investigation and additional charges are possible, officers said.
