Tampa Police Make 46 Arrests During Music Festival

The majority of 30 felony arrests at the Sunset Music Festival were drug-related, according to the Tampa Police Department.

TAMPA – Police here made a total of 46 arrests during the two-day Sunset Music Festival, according to preliminary data from the Tampa Police Department.

Police had promised a crackdown on enforcement at this year’s festival. Last year, the festival at Raymond James Stadium came under heavy fire after two people died in connection to the event. Another 57 were hospitalized and 33 were arrested in 2016. Drugs were a major problem.

This year, police said there were no major incidents during the two days. A total of 46 arrests were made. Of those, 30 were felony charges and 16 were misdemeanors. Police said the majority of felony arrests were for possession of MDMA/Ecstasy.

The preliminary breakdown:

Saturday (May 27): no major incidents; attendance estimated at 19,149; 10-felony arrests; 11-misdemeanor arrests; 32 ejections; 5-marijuana civil citations.

Sunday (May 28): no major incidents; attendance estimated at 19,873; 20-felony arrests; 5-misdemeanor arrests; 15-ejections.
