Tampa Man Faces Murder Charge

Dwayne McGriff | Tampa Police | Arrests

He was found in the rental car area on the grounds of the Tampa International Airport, according to the Tampa Police Department.

TAMPA – A man has been arrested in connection with the shooting death of another Tampa man, the Tampa Police Department said.

Dwayne McGriff, 31, of Tampa, was charged with one count each of first degree murder and felon in possession of a firearm. The charges arise from the shooting death Wednesday (April 4) of Dave M. George, 47, of Tampa.

Police said that about 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, a man rode a bicycle up to Unique Auto Detailing and shot Mr. George in the parking lot at 2630 E Lake Ave. The man, whom police identified as McGriff, fled. Officers who answered a call of shots fired provided medical care to Mr. George until he was taken to the hospital where he died of his injuries. The bicycle used in the shooting was found near the scene.

On Friday (April 6), police said they found McGriff in a car in the rental car area at Tampa International Airport.  He was arrested without incident.

The motive for the shooting remains unclear, though McGriff and Mr. George knew each other.
