Tampa Man Accused of Shooting Neighbor to Death

It is unclear why the other man was shot, according to the Tampa Police Department.

TAMPA – A Tampa man has been accused of shooting a neighbor to death over the weekend, the Tampa Police Department said.

Matthew J. Downey, 57, was found dead of gunshot wounds late Saturday (Sept. 16). His neighbor, Brian Baker, 57, has been charged with second degree murder in connection with the shooting.

Police were called to the Yacht Club subdivision about 10:15 p.m. Saturday for a report that shots had been fired. Police said they found Mr. Downey already dead when the arrived. Baker was at the scene and was taken into custody.

Mr. Downey and Baker knew each other, but it is unclear what led to the shooting. Police said the investigation is continuing.
