Tampa Man Accused of Fracturing Baby’s Skull

HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY – A Tampa man has been accused of inflicting multiple skull fractures on a 3-month-old baby, the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office said.

The is in critical condition at All Children’s Hospital in St. Petersburg.

Demarcus Lamar Johnson, 25, of Tampa, was charged with one count of aggravated child abuse, a felony.

Deputies said they received a call about 6:45 a.m. Friday (July 13) from Brandon Regional Hospital regarding a 3-month old girl who was suffering from an unknown head injury. Upon examination, hospital staff determined the baby had multiple skull fractures with swelling on her brain. She was ultimately flown by helicopter to All Children’s where she underwent emergency surgery.

Johnson was the sole care provider of the child while her mother was working overnight, deputies said. When the mother returned home from work around 4 a.m., she discovered the baby with head trauma and took her to the hospital. Johnson is the mother’s live-in boyfriend but is not the child’s father.
