HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY – A Tampa man is accused of carjacking after he took a car from a McDonald’s, the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office said.

Roman Provezano, 17, of Tampa, was charged with one count of carjacking and two counts of violating probation.

Deputies said the car’s owner was video chatting on his tablet outside of the McDonalds at 502 Brandon Blvd. about 9:30 p.m. Dec. 17 when he heard someone get into his car, which he had left running, and try to drive it away.

The owner tried to stop Provezano from getting away and struggled with with him. Deputies said the owner was dragged by the Honda for a short distance before letting go. He received minor abrasions on his shoulder, elbow and knee.

Two nearby officers from the Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission saw the Honda operating recklessly as it fled the scene and tried to make a traffic stop. Provezano fled from the traffic stop while discarding the tablet onto the roadway, deputies said.

The Honda was found abandoned the next morning in the area near the Hard Rock Casino. The Honda is equipped with an ignition interlock device that requires the driver to provide a breath sample for it to run. Provezano provided the breath samples and was captured by the installed camera on the ignition interlock device multiple times throughout his use of the vehicle.
