Swiss Woman Accused of Stealing Engagement Ring

Barbara Beaud | Clearwater Police | Arrests

The ring was left on a table in a restaurant, the Clearwater Police Department said.

CLEARWATER – A woman from Switzerland is accused of stealing an engagement ring that had been mistakenly left on a table by a diner at a restaurant, the Clearwater Police Department said.

Barbara Beaud, 46, was charged with one count of grand theft. Pinellas County Jail records note that she was born in Switzerland, but show no address for her. She was booked into the jail late Friday (July 27) and released later in the day on $2,000 bail.

Officers said they were called to Frenchy’s Rockaway Grill on Clearwater Beach at about 3 p.m. Friday after a diner there said she had accidentally left her $8,500 engagement ring on the table when she had left the restaurant. She had apparently placed the ring on the table while she put on lotion, and then forgot to put it back on.

Police watched surveillance video from the restaurant and said they could see Beaud, who was dining with her family at a nearby table, take the ring. Instead of turning it in, Beaud took it from the table and then she and her family left the restaurant.

In about an hour, officers said they were able to find Beaud walking along Mandalay Avenue. She was charged and the ring was found and returned to its owner.
