U.S. marshals tried to arrest him in Alabama but, after he took and released hostages, he fled, according to the Pinellas Park Police Department.

PINELLAS PARK – U.S. marshals are searching an area in Madison County, AL, for a man suspected of murdering a woman in Pinellas Park, according to the Pinellas Park Police Department.

Pinellas Park police recently obtained an arrest warrant for 45 year old Siddeeq Ma’Shooq, who is also known as Steven Brooks, of St. Petersburg. He is wanted in connection with the Feb. 12 shooting death of  Caroline Morton-Hicks. Ms. Morton-Hicks was murdered shortly after leaving a practice session with the Pinellas Park Civic Orchestra at the city’s Performing Arts Center,  4951 78th Ave. N. (Click here for related story.)

Pinellas Park police said they had information that Ma’Shooq could be found in Harvest, AL, a small town north of Huntsville in Madison County. Local law enforcement in Madison County along with U.S. Marshals tried Wednesday (April 11) night to find Ma’Shooq and taske him into custody on the arrest warrant.

During that process, a standoff with law enforcement occurred, during which time an elderly couple inside a home was taken hostage. Eventually the hostages were released unharmed. Later in the standoff Ma’Shooq was able to flee from the home and a manhunt in area of Harvest, Alabama began. The manhunt is continuing, police said.

Homicide detectives from Pinellas Park are in Alabama awaiting Ma’Shooq’s arrest.
