Suspect Found Hiding in Closet, Hillsborough Deputies Say

Robert Hubbard | Hillsborough Sheriff | Arrests

A K9 found him in the closet, Hillsborough deputies said.

TAMPA – A man accused of threatening bar customers with a gun was arrested after deputies found him hiding in a bedroom closet, the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office said.

Robert Hubbard, 40, was already wanted on charges including probation violation, using an altered ID, robbery, fraudulent use of a credit card, grand theft, giving false information to a pawnbroker, and dealing in stolen property.

Deputies were searching for him in connection with an Oct. 8 altercation at a pub located at 7209 N Dale Mabry Highway. Deputies said he threatened customers with a gun during the altercation.

Hubbard fled the bar before deputies arrived. When they found him in the area, Hubbard fled in his 2014 Kia, crashing the car before taking off on foot.

About 7 p.m. Thursday (Oct. 18), deputies went to a home on Waterhole Place N in Tampa, after getting a tip that Hubbard could be hiding there. Deputies watched the residence and confirmed that Hubbard was hiding inside.

After trying to talk Hubbard out of the home, a K-9 was sent in and found Hubbard hiding inside a bedroom closet.

Hubbard was removed from the home and treated on-scene for a self-inflected neck injury. Hubbard was taken to St Joseph’s hospital for his injuries.
