Student Stabbed While Waiting for School Bus

The student was taken to the hospital for treatment and a suspect is in custody, St. Petersburg police said.

ST. PETERSBURG – A 16-year-old high school student was stabbed this morning at a stop while waiting for a Pinellas County school bus, according to the St. Petersburg Police Department.

The 16-year-old girl who was injured was taken in serious condition. She is in stable condition, officers said. Police said they have a suspect in custody.

Officers said two teenage girls, involved in an ongoing disagreement, began fighting at a bus stop near Paris Avenue and Sixth Street S. As the bus approached the fight escalated and the 15-year-old stabbed the 16-year-old. At some point the 15 year old ran onto the bus.

When police arrived, the 15 year old was taken into custody.

There were between 25 and 30 students on the bus who were taken to Gibbs High School.

Counselors are available at the school for students who may need them.
