Student Charged in Stabbing at Tampa High School

The stabbing happened when two students became involved in a fight, Tampa police said.

TAMPA – Police here say they are investigating a stabbing that happened this morning (March 28) at Chamberlain High School

The 15-year-old vitim was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Roselena Tavera-Diaz, 15, of Tampa was charged with aggravated battery, possession of a weapon on a school campus, and carrying a concealed weapon.

Both girls are in the ninth grade at Chamberlain, 9401 N Blvd.

Police said the stabbing happened about 9:30 a.m. during the passing time between second and third periods. The two girls began fighting, officers said, resulting in one of the students stabbing the other. Two students pulled Tavera-Diaz off the victim, preventing further injury.

Taversa-Diaz fled but the school resource officer was able to put out a description of her and she was caught without incident when a Tampa Police officer spotted her walking eastbound
along Busch Boulevard not far from the Chamberlain campus. A steak knife, thought to be the weapon used in the stabbing, was found inside her pocket, police said.

The school was placed on modified lockdown for less than 10 minutes, officers said.
