Student Accused in Theft of Gun from Vehicle

Devyion Tyrese Bradley | Hernando Sheriff | Arrests

Hernando deputies say he confessed to the crime.

SPRING HILL – A student at Springstead High School has been taking a gun and other items during the burglary of a vehicle at an apartment complex, the Hernando County Sheriff’s Office said.

Devyion Tyrese Bradley, 18, of Spring Hill, was charged with one count of Armed Burglary to a Conveyance, a felony. Deputies said he has a history of burglary charges out of Hillsborough County.

Bradley initially denied being involved in the crime, but later confessed, according to deputies.

Deputies said they were called to the Spring Haven Apartments, 220 Spring Haven Loop in Spring Hill, about 7:31 a.m. Monday (Sept. 16) for a report of a vehicle burglary during which a firearm was stolen.

A witness reported seeing a school-aged individual enter the vehicle and remove several items. The witness said the unknown suspect walked out of sight for a short time before returning to get on a school bus that was headed to Springstead High. The witness provided a detailed description of the suspect.

Deputies went to Springstead to try to find the suspect. They said they were able to find five students who had been on the bus and matched the description given by the witness. Bradley was one of those.

Bradley denied being involved in the armed vehicle burglary. However, deputies said they found a pocketknife in his backpack. Bradley was issued a three-day suspension by school administration for bringing a knife on campus.

His mother picked Bradley up from school and took him home.

During that time, deputies said they found the stolen firearm in a secluded area of the Spring Haven Apartments complex. The gun was processed for evidence.

A short time after arriving home, Bradley walked to the home of the vehicle owner where he confessed to burglarizing the vehicle. Bradley then called Deputy Tommy Harris, the SRO at Springstead, to confess to the armed vehicle burglary.

During questioning, Bradley told deputies he took the firearm from the vehicle because of the adrenaline rush. Bradley said he never planned to bring the gun to school. Instead, he hid the gun and other stolen items in a wooded area behind the apartment complex until he was able to return from school.

Bradley said no one else was involved.
