Two children, ages 2 and 4, were found in “deplorable conditions,” St. Petersburg police say.

ST. PETERSBURG – A woman has been accused of child abuse after a neighbor called to report a child’s crying, St. Petersburg police said.

Chyanne Davis, 22, 7045 30th Ave. N, was charged with two counts of aggravated child abuse, police said.

Police said a neighbor called to report a child crying. When police arrived with a child protection investigator about 2:20 p.m. Friday (July 15), they found two young children, a 4-year-old boy and a 2-year-old girl, living in “deplorable conditions” in Davis’ apartment. Police said the apartment was full of rotting garbage, soiled diapers, roaches and flies.

The girl was found, naked and covered in feces, in a playpen in the living room, police said. The boy was locked in a room with walls covered with feces and no bedding. The boy was naked and covered in feces, urine and insects. The odor was overpowering.

Davis was sleeping in another room. Investigators said they believe she’s been leaving the kids alone while she worked at night at a fast food restaurant.

The children were taken to All Children’s Hospital for assessment and treatment.
