St. Petersburg Woman Accused of Manslaughter in Accidental Shooting

St. Petersburg police said she admitted the accidental shooting.

ST. PETERSBURG – A St. Petersburg woman is facing charges in connection with the accidental shooting death of a teen this morning (Dec. 23), the St. Petersburg Police Department said.

Destiny Loper, 17, died of her injuries.

Jessica Perry, 21, of St. Petersburg, has been charged with one count of manslaughter. Officers said she admitted the shooting.

Police said that Perry, who had a gun, was riding in the back seat of a vehicle. Perry accidentally discharged the gun, striking Ms. Loper in the back.

At that time, the vehicle was in the area of Central Avenue near 58th Street in St. Petersburg. The occupants of the vehicle drove down Central Avenue behind the police department where they flagged down an officer.

Ms. Loper later died of her injuries.
