St. Petersburg Police Investigate Stabbing Death

The murder victim was a cab driver from Pinellas Park.

ST. PETERSBURG – Police say they are investigating the stabbing death of a taxi cab driver.

John Andrew Hutchens, 59, of Pinellas Park, was found in the parking lot of a closed Citgo station about 1 a.m. today (June 1). St. Petersburg police said they tried to save him but were unable to do so. Police said he was stabbed. He worked for United Taxi of Clearwater.

Police were called to a Citgo station at 38th Avenue and 28th Street N about a man who was seriously injured and lying in the station’s parking lot.

Officers said the killer escaped in Mr. Hutchens’ cab. It was found abandoned near 47th Avenue N and 71st Way. Officers interviewed witnesses and are reviewing evidence collected from the
two scenes.
