St. Petersburg Police Accuse Woman of Attempted Murder

Police said she threw boiling hot soup on her boyfriend after an argument.

ST. PETERSBURG – Police here have accused a woman of trying to kill her boyfriend after an argument.

Misty Childs, 41, was arrested Tuesday (Aug. 2) and charged with attempted first degree murder.

Her boyfriend, Lavont Moss, 46, is in the hospital with severe burns. He is listed in critical condition. He has been there since the July 31 incident, according to St. Petersburg police.

Officers said the incident happened just after midnight when Childs and Moss began arguing. After the argument, Moss went to bed. Childs, who had been preparing a boiling pot of soup, took the hot liquid and poured it onto Moss’ face and upper torso as he was lying in bed, police said. Childs then left.

Police received a tip Tuesday (Aug. 2) about Childs’ whereabouts. They went to the location and arrested her.
