As a convicted felon, he was prohibited from possessing a firearm, the U.S. Attorney’s Office said.

TAMPA – A St. Petersburg man was found guilty of violating a federal law prohibiting convicted felons from possessing a firearm, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Middle District of Florida.

Tyrone Walker, 36, of St. Petersburg, faces a maximum penalty of 10 years in federal prison. His sentencing hearing is scheduled for Nov. 6. Walker was indicted March 22.

According to evidence presented at trial, Walker possessed a firearm that he used to shoot and kill another man during a dispute. At the time of the incident, Walker had a prior felony conviction and therefore was prohibited from possessing firearms or ammunition under federal law.

This case was brought as part of Project Safe Neighborhoods, a program that has been successful in bringing together all levels of law enforcement to reduce violent crime and make neighborhoods safer.
