St. Petersburg Man Charged in Shooting Death of Bystander

He shot at a passing truck, St. Petersburg police said.

ST. PETERSBURG – A St. Petersburg man has been arrested and charged in connection with the shooting death Sunday (Nov. 11) of an innocent bystander, the St. Petersburg Police Department said.

Aesha Kendrick, 38, died at a hospital where she was taken after she was shot.

Jamel Walker, 29, of St. Petersburg, was charged with one count of second degree murder in connection with Ms. Kendrick’s death. He was also charged with one count of attempted murder in the first degree for shooting at a truck.

Police said that, shortly after 10 a.m. Sunday, Walker shot at a passing truck in the 2000 block of 45st S, in the Twin Brooks neighborhood. Walker’s bullet hit Ms. Kendrick, who was on her porch.

Officers said other people were in the house, including several children, but no one else was hurt.
