St. Petersburg Man Charged in Death of Infant

ST. PETERSBURG – Police here have accused a man of killing a 54-day-old infant.

Jeremiah Dillard, 33, of 11763 7th Lane, Apt. 3, in St. Petersburg, was charged with first degree murder Saturday (Feb. 11), according to the St. Petersburg Police Department.

Police said that an unresponsive 54-day-old child was taken to a local hospital about 2:20 a.m. Sept. 24. Hospital officials pronounced the child dead about an hour later.

The Pinellas County Medical Examiner’s Office subsequently ruled the child’s death a homicide indicating the cause of death was asphyxia with contributing conditions of blunt trauma and malnutrition, officers said.

St. Petersburg Police Department major crimes \unit detectives were able to establish probable cause for Dillard’s arrest, police said.
