St. Petersburg Man Accused of DUI After Crash with Deputy

Both the deputy and other driver suffered minor injuries in the crash, Pinellas deputies said.

ST. PETERSBURG – A deputy and a St. Petersburg man were injured in a traffic crash early this morning (Jan. 23), according to the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputy Shawn Livernois, 31, and Derrick L. Taylor, 34, of St. Petersburg, were taken to a hospital with minor injuries. After Taylor was released from the hospital, he was taken to the Pinellas County Jail and charged with one count of DUI with Property Damage/Personal Injury and was cited for not wearing a seatbelt and failing to stop at a stop sign.

The crash happened about 12:01 a.m. at the intersection of 37th Street S and 11th Avenue S in St. Petersburg.

Deputies said Livernois was on-duty and traveling north on 37th Street S in his unmarked 2007 Dodge Magnum. Taylor was driving his 2013 Nissan Altima west on 11th Avenue S approaching 37th Street.

Taylor failed to stop at a stop sign located at the intersection of 37th Street South and 11th Avenue South and crashed into Deputy Livernois’ vehicle.

Deputies said Taylor showed signs of impairment at the scene.
