St. Petersburg police say the woman used the victim’s funds to pay her mortgage and other personal expenses.

ST. PETERSBURG – Police have accused a licensed professional guardian of taking more than $00,000 from a 94-year-old man’s living trust.

Jane E. Vatelot, 68, of 7300 Sunshine Skyway Lane S, No. 206, was arrested Friday (Oct. 7) and charged with exploitation of the elderly, a first degree felony.

The victim, a 94-year-old man, is a resident of a local assisted living facility. Police said Vatelot is a licensed professional guardian who was contacted about helping the victim with finances. Vatelot was granted a power of attorney designation from the victim who lacked the capacity to consent at the time. This allowed Vatelot access to the victim’s living trust account.

Police said Vatelot used the victim’s funds for her own personal expenses, including mortgage, credit cards and car insurance payments. The loss at this time is approximately $126,000.
