ST. PETERSBURG – Police have arrested the man who stole a car with a baby inside earlier this week, according to the St. Petersburg Police Department.

When they caught him, police said Rashad Webb was driving another stolen car.

Webb, 19, is a transient. He is charged with child abuse, occupied vehicle burglary, and auto theft in connection with Monday’s (April 23) incident. Webb is also charged with auto theft, fleeing and eluding, and no valid driver’s license from this morning’s (April 26) incident. Police said Webb has been arrested 27 times in Pinellas County since he was 10 years old.

Officers from the Violent Crimes Task Force said they spotted Webb driving a stolen rented Toyota Corolla just before 2 a.m. this morning. When they tried to stop him, he drove off at a high rate of speed. Officers were later able to use stop sticks. Webb ultimately stopped the Toyota in the 2200 block of 15th Avenue S and surrendered.

Webb was wanted for stealing a car with a baby inside on Monday from the Gateway on 4th Apartments. He said when he realized the baby was in the car, he dropped him off in the parking lot where the child was found.
