St. Pete Police Charge Man with Attempted Murder

The shooting was domestic related, the St. Petersburg police said.

ST. PETERSBURG – A man has been charged with attempted murder after a shooting in the YMCA parking lot, according to the St. Petersburg Police Department.

Gregg A. Johnson, 25, was wounded in the incident. His wound was not life threatening.

Phelan Drez Brown, 25, of St. Petersburg, was charged with attempted felony murder and aggravated assault domestic related.

Police were called to a domestic-related shooting in the parking lot of the YMCA, 3200 1st Ave S. about 6 p.m. Tuesday (Oct. 3).

Officers said Brown got into an argument with Chaunice White and Johnson. White and Brown had a previous relationship.

Brown fired at the car White was in, but missed her. Police said he fired another shot at Johnson and grazed him. Johnson and Brown struggled until police arrived and arrested Brown.
