A neighbor called officers.

ST. PETERSBURG – A Clearwater man has been accused of breaking into an evacuated home, according to the St. Petersburg Police Department.

David Christopher Love, 21, was charged with one count each of burglary to an occupied dwelling and possession of drug paraphernalia. He also had a warrant out for violation of probation for a previous, unrelated charge of burglary.

Police said a vigilant neighbor called to report a suspicious man at a neighboring home on 15th Street North at about 12:40 p.m. Monday (Sept. 11). The caller told police his neighbors had boarded up the home and evacuated because of Hurricane Irma.

Officers said they caught Love at the scene with stolen property. He broke in through back door, but was unable to get into the main home.
