ST. PETERSBURG – A St. Petersburg man is accused of being a “serial burglar,” according to the St. Petersburg Police Department.

Lupen Jerusho River Font, 35, of St. Petersburg, is facing 16 burglary-related charges including two charges of armed burglary. He is also facing charges of one count each of aggravated assault, grand theft motor vehicle, false verification of ownership and arson. All charges all stem from crimes committed since the beginning of August. Police said they are continuing to investigate.

Officers arrested Font on Wednesday (Oct. 4) during the investigation of a residential burglary in the 8000 block of Riverside Drive N.

The homeowner, who was armed, saw Font trying to get into his house around 9:40 a.m. and confronted him. Police said Font fled, but the homeowner fired and hit his vehicle several times. Police found Font near 94th Avenue and 4th Street N, where he was arrested without incident.

After interviewing him, police said they believe he was involved in an Oct. 1 armed burglary at the same address. That time, he stole more than 20 firearms and other items from the home.
Detectives said they recovered six stolen firearms and a substantial amount of stolen property.

Font agreed to cooperate with officers to identify more than a dozen homes in St. Petersburg, Gulfport and Tampa that have been burglarized.
