The man drove his car at his step-sister and another woman, police said.

ST. PETERSBURG – Police have accused a man of intentionally trying to run over a teenager and another woman.

Robert Templeton, 26, of 6828 28th Ave. N, was charged with aggravated battery and domestic battery. He was taken to the Pinellas County Jail.

St. Petersburg police said the incident happened about 8:30 p.m. Sunday (July 10) when Templeton was visiting Alana Simpson, 27, at a home in south St. Petersburg. Templeton and Simpson started arguing and, police said, he hit Simpson causing “obvious physical injuries.”

Templeton left in his car, but police said he circled around into the alley behind the house where the argument continued. Police said Templeton intentionally drove his car at Simpson and at  Christina Gaffney, 17. The car hit Simpson’s leg and Gaffney. Simpson received minor injuries. Gaffney sustained multiple serious injuries, officers said. Officers first believed that Gaffney was Templeton’s stepsister. But late Monday (July 11), officials said further investigation revealed the two are not related.

Gaffney was taken to Bayfront Health St. Petersburg where she was listed in critical condition. Her condition has since been upgraded to stable.

Templeton left the scene, police said, but was found later several miles from the scene.
