St. Pete Man Charged After Crash with Pinellas Deputy
Three people, including the deputy, were injured in the 62nd Avenue N crash. Pinellas deputies said speed was a factor.
PINELLAS PARK – A St. Petersburg man was arrested Wednesday (May 1) after he crashed into the back of a sheriff’s SUV, according to the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputy Joshua Short, 29; the other driver, Ronald Reed Jr., 30; and his passenger were all taken to the hospital with minor injuries. When Reed, of St. Petersburg, was released from the hospital, he was arrested and charged with one count of Felony Driving While License Revoked.
The crash happened about 9:49 a.m. at 5361 62nd Ave. N in Pinellas Park.
According to investigators, Short, who was on-duty and driving his fully marked 2013 Chevrolet Tahoe westbound on 62nd Avenue N, was stopped for traffic just west of 53rd Street N.
Reed was driving a 2004 BMW 645CI west on 62nd Avenue N when he failed to stop for traffic and hit the the passenger side rear bumper of Short’s agency SUV. Investigators said Reed’s vehicle left the roadway and entered a ditch on the north side of 62nd Avenue, crossed over a residential driveway, then struck a second ditch, where the car came to rest.
Speed appears to be a factor in the crash.
