Spring Hill Siblings Beat Up Grandparents, Deputies Say
One of them threatened deputies, according to the Hernando sheriff’s office.
SPRING HILL – A brother and sister are accused of beating up their grandparents, the Hernando County Sheriff’s Office said.
Angel Jose Mariani, 23, of Spring Hill, was charged with one count each of Domestic Battery, Battery, Assault/Battery on Person 65 or Older, Battery on Law Enforcement Officer, Resisting Officer with Violence, Criminal Mischief, Threats to Public Official, Resisting Officer without Violence, and Providing False Name to Law Enforcement.
His sister Monique Mariani, 21, also of Spring Hill, was charged with one count of Assault/Battery on Person 65 or Older. Another sister, Madelyn Mariani, 17, was also arrested on a Hernando County Warrant for Failure to Appear on a charge of Burglary of a Dwelling.
On 12-21-18, Hernando deputies were dispatched to a home on Southwest Boulevard on Dec. 21 for a report of multiple batteries that had just happened at the residence. The first deputy who arrived saw three people who had suffered various injuries. The three said that Angel and Monique had inflicted the injuries.
The siblings’ grandfather, who was one of the victims, told deputies that Angel, Monique and their sister, Madelyn, had been living in a tent in the backyard of his home. Throughout the day the grandfather had given his two granddaughters some money.
When Angel found out, he approached his grandfather and demanded money, too. When his grandfather refused, witnesses told deputies that Angel began punching his grandfather multiple times. The grandfather was able to retreat into a nearby shed.
A short time later Angel, along with his sister Monique approached their grandmother to try confronting their grandfather who was still inside the shed.
When the grandmother asked them to leave, Angel and Monique began punching and kicking their grandmother, deputies said. Another person tried to help her but was also battered by Angel.
Angel then went to the shed where he was able to force his way inside and vandalize various items.
Angel, Monique, and Madelyn fled the residence before deputies got there.
A deputy found all three at the intersection of Parlow Avenue and Toucan Trail in Spring Hill. After giving a false name to deputies, Angel fled on foot.
The two sisters remained and were arrested at the scene.
Both the K-9 Unit and the Air Unit were used to find Angel. A short time later the Air Unit located Angel hiding in some nearby shrubs.
After a short foot chase, deputies said they tased Angel when he continued to be combative with deputies attempting to arrest him. Once in custody, Angel continued to threaten deputies.
