Spring Hill Man Dead After Home Invasion

Hernando sheriff’s deputies said the incident does not appear to be random and is possibly drug related.

SPRING HILL – A Spring Hill man died this morning (Oct. 16) of injuries he received when shot during a reported home invasion, the Hernando County Sheriff’s Office said.

Alek Nathaniel Smith, 22, died at an area hospital. Victoria Anne Casey, 21, who lived in the home, suffered minor injuries. A 2-year-old child who was not injured.

Deputies said the investigation is still “active and fluid.”

The incident happened about 1:05 a.m. on Legend Street in Spring Hill. When deputies arrived, they found Mr. Smith had been beaten and shot.

Investigators said the incident did not appear to be random and “is possibly drug related.”
