He set fire to the house where his ex-girlfriend lived, according to the Hernando County Sheriff’s Office.

SPRING HILL – A Spring Hill man has been accused of trying to murder 10 people after he set fire to the home where his former girlfriend was living, the Hernando County Sheriff’s Office said.

Christopher Lamar Jamison, 27, of Spring Hill, was charged with 10 counts of attempted first degree murder and one count each of arson to a dwelling and aggravated stalking.

At about midnight July 23, Hernando County Sheriff’s deputies and Hernando County Fire Rescue were dispatched to Chamber Court in Spring Hill for a structure fire.

Upon arrival, firefighters found the rear of the residence was on fire, and fire was quickly spreading to the roof. Firefighters made sure everyone was out of the residence and put out the fire. It appeared the fire had been intentionally set.

Deputies said Jamison had gone to the home of his ex-girlfriend, Lucila Oyola, just before midnight and set the lanai of the home on fire. The fire spread from the lanai to the roof, engulfing a large portion of the residence. One of the people inside the home saw the fire and alerted all of the other residents to evacuate. All occupants in the residence escaped uninjured.

Deputies said the lanai was against the bedroom where Oyola was sleeping, a fact that Jamison was aware of. Jamison also knew, deputies said, that at midnight, most, if not all, people in the home would be sleeping.

Oyola told detectives that she had ended the relationship with Jamison  about two months before the fire. During this time period, Jamison continued to try to reconcile with Oyola. Oyola refused to reconcile.

During an argument between the two, Jamison told Oyola that, if she did not reconcile with him, he would burn the house down, and that nobody was going to tell him that he couldn’t be with her. Oyola’s brother
was present when this occurred and heard the entire argument, including the threat to burn the house down.

After the fire, Oyola got a domestic violence injunction on the defendant. He was not permitted to have contact with the victim, directly or indirectly, or by fax, phone, or email.

Soon after the fire, Oyola was contacted anonymously. Investigators said Jamison made the anonymous communication during which he admitted to setting the fire.
