Two inmates were involved in the attempt, the Hernando County Sheriff’s Office said.

HERNANDO COUNTY – A Spring Hill man and two jail inmates have been charged in connection with an attempt to smuggle drugs into the jail, according to the Hernando County Sheriff’s Office.

Jonathan Perry, 27, of Spring Hill, was charged with introduction of contraband into a detention center. Also charged with conspiracy to introduce contraband into a detention center.were inmates Camilla Bell, 32, of Spring Hill, and Rebecca Lashbrook, 28, of Spring Hill.

Deputies said they discovered the drugs on June 18 while conducting a search of the public restroom in the lobby of the Hernando County Detention Center. Cpl. Jamie Downey discovered a syringe, along with three “Opana” 10mg pills, duct taped to the toilet. Opana is an opioid.

Downey and Sgt. Daniel Quinones conducted a review of the Detention Center’s video surveillance that they said showed Perry enter the lobby restroom about 9:05 p.m.

Quinones and Downey also reviewed recent phone calls and determined that Inmates Lashbrook and Bell were possibly involved in the incident. Insp. Cliff Faulkingham reviewed several hours of phone calls and was able to determine that Bell had planned this incident.

On June 18, Bell gave Perry $250. After releasing the money, Inmate Lashbrook called Perry continuously throughout the day to give him step-by-step instructions on how to deliver the drugs.

Perry was to use the money released by Inmate Bell to purchase drugs. He was then to tape the items to the back of the toilet in the lobby restroom. Later in the evening, a “trusty” inmate on the clean-up crew, was to retrieve the items and take them to Bell.

Deputies said Perry and Lashbrook admitted their roles as well as the plan.
