Sixth-Grade Teacher Charged with Possessing Child Pornography

The teacher threw his laptop into a lake after he learned police had been called, Largo officers said.

LARGO – A sixth-grade teacher at Clearwater Intermediate School has been accused of possessing child pornography, according to the Largo Police Department.

Robert James Plotkin, 57, of Largo, was charged with 10 counts of possession of child pornography and one count of tampering with physical evidence. Plotkin has been a sixth-grade math and science teacher at the school, 1220 Palmetto St. in Clearwater, for the past five years.

Police received a call from Plotkin’s roommate March 15 that he had found child pornography on Plotkin’s personal computer. After an argument over a vehicle the roommate called the Largo Police Department to report the child pornography and told Plotkin what he had done.

While Largo Police were in route to the call, police said Plotkin threw his laptop into a lake behind the apartment complex. Once officers arrived, Plotkin told them the computer was in the lake. Police said Plotkin retrieved the laptop for them.

The computer was seized as evidence but Plotkin was not arrested then. Officers said a Largo cyber crime investigator was able to retrieve images from the hard drive. The images that were recovered were that of child pornography with kids’ whose ages ranged from three to 17, police said. .

Today (March 28), police went to the school and interviewed Plotkin, who was taken to the Largo Police Department and arrested.
