Robber Shoots at Woman in Tyrone Square Parking Lot

The woman was not injured. St. Petersburg police are stepping up patrols in the parking lot and inside the mall.

ST. PETERSBURG – A robber fired a shot at a woman Thursday (Nov. 23) night in the Tyrone Square Mall parking lot, St. Petersburg police said.

The woman, 51, was not injured.

Police said the shooting happened about 9:25 p.m. The woman was walking to her PT Cruiser when she noticed a man following her.

She hurried to get into her car and lock her door. The man fired one shot into her car, and shattered her driver’s side car window. He reached in and grabbed her purse and took off in a waiting Saturn.

Police officers and mall security guards were on the property patrolling in the immediate area at the time. The Saturn was recovered shortly afterwards near 9th Avenue S and 44th Street. It
had been reported stolen a few days before. The vehicle was processed for evidence. Detectives are investigating and viewing all available surveillance video from the area.

Today (Nov. 24) and throughout the weekend, the St. Petersburg Police Department said it will increase the number of police officers in all areas of the parking lot as well as inside the mall.
