Road Rage Shooter Aimed at Wrong Person, Pasco Deputies Say

Dakota L. Haber | Pasco Sheriff | Arrests

Pasco deputies say he admitted shooting at the woman.

ODESSA – A Odessa man was arrested in connection with a road rage shooting that involved a case of mistaken identity, the Pasco County Sheriff’s Office said.

Dakota L. Haber, 24, of Odessa, was charged with one count each of Aggravated Assault, Throw/Shoot Deadly Missile into Occupied Structure Vehicle, and Carrying a Concealed Firearm. All are felonies.

Deputies said the shooting happened about 8:30 p.m. Tuesday (Nov. 5).

Haber and another man got into a road rage incident at the front gate of the Swan View Townhomes complex in Odessa. The incident turned physical, but the two separated, got into their own vehicles and entered the complex.

A short time later, deputies said, Haber parked his vehicle and thought he saw the man he had argued with earlier following him, so Haber got a handgun from his vehicle. He shot at least five rounds from a distance of more than 50 yards at a vehicle that he thought belonged to that man.

He was shooting at the wrong vehicle, deputies said. The woman inside the vehicle was not involved in the initial altercation and had simply been stuck in traffic trying to enter the complex. She suffered minor injuries from glass shards when Haber shot out her vehicle window and she was taken to a local hospital.

Haber fled the scene but later called law enforcement and admitted to the shooting. Haber told deputies that, since he believed the man had tried to kill him during their previous physical altercation, he was shooting at the vehicle he believed to be occupied by that man in order to kill him.
