The charge arose from an Aug. 5 crash that killed a bicyclist.

HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY – A Riverview man turned himself in Friday (Oct. 5) to face a charge arising from a hit-and-run crash that killed a bicyclist, the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office said.

Ali Abdelrahim Abu-Shtaiah, 25, of Riverview, was charged with one count of leaving the scene of a crash with a death, a first degree felony. Deputies said he turned himself in Friday.

The charge arose from an Aug. 5 crash that killed bicyclist Johnny L. Arrington. Deputies said that, between 2 a.m. and 4 a.m. that day, an unknown vehicle traveling southbound on 78th Street hit Mr. Arrington near the intersection of Eau Claire Circle. The driver fled, leaving Mr. Arrington and his 26″, red Mongoose Element in the street.

Deputies said DNA results from biological evidence indicate Mr. Arrington was hit by Abu-Shtaiah’s truck. Video evidence also places the truck in the area of the crash.
