Registered Felon Charged with Stealing, Selling Gun

He admitted stealing and selling the weapon, Hernando sheriff’s deputies said.

BROOKSVILLE – A registered felon has been accused of stealing and selling a firearm,. according to the Hernando County Sheriff’s Office.

Scott Anthony Pettersen, 54, of Brooksville, was charged with one count each of grand theft (firearm), dealing in stolen property, and possession of firearm by a convicted felon. Deputies said Pettersen is a Registered Felon with an extensive an violent criminal history that includes homicide.

Deputies began their investigation Monday (Oct. 1) when a resident on Sweet Gum Road in Brooksville reported a .22 caliber revolver had been stolen. The resident told deputies that Pettersen was a possible suspect. Petters had done work around the property from time-to-time.

Deputies interviewed Pettersen regarding the theft. Pettersen denied any involvement or knowledge of the theft.

The case was turned over to sheriff’s Detective Earnest Johnson, who also spoke with Pettersen.

During the interview, Pettersen again denied any involvement in, or knowledge of, the theft of the firearm. As the interview continued, deputies said Pettersen admitted to stealing the firearm and selling it.
