Police are investigating to see if the shooting was accidental.

TAMPA – Police here are investigating a shooting that resulted in the death of a toddler.

Amaya Shafi, 17 1/2 months, died Sunday (Sept. 18) at a hospital where her parents took her after she received a single gunshot wound, according to the Tampa Police Department.

The shooting took place about 4:12 p.m. in the Clipper Bay Apts., 6727 S Lois Ave., where she lived with her parents. Tampa police said the gunshot came from a handgun owned by one of her family members. Police are investigating to determine if the shooting was accidental. No arrests have been made.
