Police | Crime | Investigation

Police say it might be a man who has been missing since Friday (Oct. 21).

TAMPA – Dive teams searching this morning (Oct. 22) for a man who went missing in waters near the Courtney Campbell Causeway boat ramp on Friday afternoon have recovered a body.

Tampa police are working to determine whether it is the missing man. The body was found about 9:52 a.m. near where the man went missing.

The man was in a rental boat with his fiancee Friday (Oct. 21) when the boat hit a sandbar. He jumped off the boat to push it off the sandbar, but went underwater. The boat drifted as he attempted to remain afloat, resurfacing twice. His fiance tossed a life vest to him. However, he did not resurface a third time and his fiancee called 911. Dive teams from several agencies responded to search for the man.

The search resumed this morning, with dive teams and representatives from the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission, the Tampa Police Department, the U.S. Coast Guard, the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office, and Tampa Fire Rescue.
