Passenger Dies in St. Petersburg Crash

A man died early this morning (Dec. 13) when the car in which he was riding flipped over and caught on fire.

ST. PETERSBURG – One passenger died in a single-car traffic crash early this morning (Dec. 13), according to the St. Petersburg Police Department.

Carlos Garrison, 35, died upon impact, police said.

The crash happened about 1:39 a.m. in the 4000 block of 54th Avenue S. Police said Tron L. Morgan, 39, was driving a Chrysler Sebring eastbound on 54th when he lost control on a curve. Police said the car left the road, hit two palm trees in the median, flipped and caught fire.

Bystanders got Morgan out of the burning car. When police arrived, they helped push the vehicle and get one of the passengers, Steed C. Garrison, 37, out of the car. They were taken to Bayfront Health with serious injuries, officers said.

Investigators said they believe alcohol was a factor in the crash. Charges are pending.
